It’s That Time of Year!

Yep, you guessed it! It’s time for our annual move! Only this time, we are staying the in state, we are staying in the city, we are even staying in the ward!! We are moving a few minutes away to a new duplex and we are pretty darn excited. Let me just give you a glimpse into our excitement—Dishwasher. Brand. New. Maytag. Dishwasher. Amongst other brand new things. So, no more greasy fingerprints stained into our kitchen cupboards. No more cigarette burns in our carpet. No more holes in the doors. AND no more loudly bathing neighbors!! And all for a really great price. We’re pretty darn excited. We’ll be moving in over the next few weeks and I don’t even want to bother with boxes because it all seems so easy. We signed the lease and got the keys this afternoon! Hooray!

On a completely different note- I need some advice. My sewing machine died. It’s roughly 15 years old and it’s a Singer. My Mom bought it for $100 dollars and it’s never been serviced or anything. So, the question is: do I buy a new inexpensive sewing machine? OR Do I spend $70 (plus potential new parts) on maintenance in hopes of reviving this one? Help me! I have about 12.2 million projects that need to be finished! Thanks!

Yay for dishwashers!!! Hmmm...that is a tricky one on the sewing machine, especially because I've heard Singers are really durable. I would probably buy a new one with a good warranty. Good luck!

New one. Walmart or Sears $80 for a Singer. Lightweight. Maybe you can sell the old one on Craigslist. Who knows? Good luck with the move.

If you sew often, I would suggest trying to find a used high quality machine (viking, bernina, or pfaff). You can buy a new $80 machine and run the risk of it breaking soon. Or you could find a used singer on craigslist and get it serviced. I bought a brother machine that was close to $300 and it was a horrible machine that never worked properly. Sometimes it just doesn't matter if it is new. I am so glad I was able to get a really great machine, but I had to suffer with the not so great ones till Jeff was out of school. Good luck!

Yay for a new place, thats awesome! (Do the neighbors still bathe loudly?! Wow. You're a saint.)

On the sewing machine, I have a cheapy singer from walmart that was about $80, I haven't had any problems with it, I've had it for about 4 years now. BUT, if you sew a LOT and have the money, I would look on craigslist or something for a used bernina. My mother in law has one and its fantastic, has lasted her for 30+ years. :)

I would get a new machine. You can find some that are around 100 bucks, maybe a little more that are really nice.
Just like an old car, you wouldn't want to put in as much money as it's worth to get it fixed.
